Review – Jupiter’s Legacy: Requiem #5

The penultimate chapter of the arc, this is Jupiter’s Legacy: Requiem #5 available from Image Comics.

The aliens Lady Liberty found in space come to Earth and explain that their origins are identical to our world’s heroes. Is there someone out there seeding the universe with superheroes? And for what purpose? Meanwhile, Skyfox is back doing what he does best, and that’s fighting superheroes. But will his family ever forgive him?

Writer – Mark Millar
Artist – Matthew Dow Smith

As we bundle towards the end of this arc, things are heating up, and some plans are unfolding.

It starts off as a family affair, with some interesting truths being told – not only in what it means to be a superhero, but also some commentary on what it is like to live with one. It’s an interesting point of view and one that is explored well here. The reaction to such criticism is well done and suited to the characters. I think there is also some good commentary on the alter-egos too.

Meanwhile, there are a lot of heroics, but some of the things that they are getting up to effects the others. The scene on the mountain is graphic, but there is a good reason for it. The echoes of these acts reflect towards others, and that is going to cause problems later on. This is cringy on a super scale.

The twist at the end – wow, that is seriously going to make going into issue #6 interesting. There is some good long-game planning going on there, and the casualties are very interesting.

I really enjoyed the art style here, with some gritty feeling to it all, with some well laid out scenes – especially the larger panels. The colouring works well with the style and some good alien scenes here.

This was an interesting issue with some big-ticket items happening that are going to have some serious ramifications on the way forward!
