Picking up after the status quo change and battles of the first volume of this series, we go worldwide.
It’s good to go global join this series as we get a look at other magic users, their powers and what they think. The main factor seems to be that there are those who think that this current world order isn’t something that should be in place.
There are those who think that the old days were better, that there used to be dragons and things should be like when magic ruled the world.
I like this beginning, it builds well on the story and opinions felt in the first volume and you can see why people would like that thought – rose-tinted glasses and all that. As the issue progresses, we see the building of those alliances and those who will be pitted against the order.
As for the order, it itself is very suburban with birthday parties and one-night stands. There is a slightly relaxed feeling about it, and this is how the first volume built on us.
The build-in of this first issue works really well with the two opposing factions showing some of their powers, what they can do and the interactions. There are some good new discoveries, like the imaginary friend, and a new look at powers as demonstrated by the old lady.
I love the art here, from the action and violence to the more mundane scenes with bright colours of a birthday party. The juxtaposition works well here.
This is a great introduction to the new volume and can be something for new readers to pick up. I’m looking forward to delving deeper into this Magic Order.
