From Iron Dynasty Comics, this is Rona: Season One #1.

Rona is a teen Valkyrie who lives within a society ruled by women. One of the Pleiadian queens died and left only a son behind. Being a boy, Harald cannot rule so with his Power Males decides to oppose his own people. Can Rona the teen Valkyrie stop him?

It was great to see Iron Dynasty Comics at MCM London this year. And I had the chance to check out one of their titles – Rona. I must admit, I was intrigued, as my wife is called Rhona (note the different spelling) so I had to check it out. I note the difference in the spelling as the Rona is more nordic, while my wife is proudly Scottish.

Rona #1 makes a lot of introductory work here. It sets up the status quo very well and introduces us quickly to our main character – Rona. That’s not to say that others get pushed to the side as the story hits its swing though. The supporting cast also has their stories to tell and this adds to the story in a good way.

Rona’s beginnings work well. She’s new to her post and has still got some learning to do. There is some sadness as we begin this story, and Rona’s actions may or may not have been responsible. It is that hesitation of a newbie, which causes this.
Nevertheless, she does get some measure of revenge, and there are some action scenes.

This issue has some nice crisp art, with an easy to read feel about it. The characters are well differentiated – except when they are wearing the same mask, which is on purpose.

Rona introduces us to a new world, with some interesting characters and a build for future issues – something worth checking out.
