An interesting addition to the Zenescope mythos here.
With a lot of backstories and flashbacks, it’s lucky that this is an oversized issue. The longer length allows for fleshing out of characters and a good story.
Building the story from the past and present, we discover the stone tablets and the mystery behind them. This story from ancient Egyptian times features magic, curses, plagues and gods in equal levels. Taken together it is an interesting story, with a good addition of the evil-apple-eating trope.
In more modern times, there are people of science. they don’t believe in magic, but do want to research these tablets and the languages behind them.
As the body count rises they are forced to question what is happening, and who is behind it.
This is a good story and at about the halfway point you begin to suspect people. The final third confirms your suspicions but tells it well and it isn’t as cut and dry as you would think.
I enjoyed this and the mythos behind it all. There are some realms of defeat on the horizon and I hope to see more of these adventures in the future. The artwork worked really well, with some good point of view shots.
