Review: King Of Spies #2

From Image Comics this week is the next in this new mini-series, this is King Of Spies #2.

The world’s greatest secret agent is murdering every crooked politician and spymaster he blames for the world we’re in right now, a killing spree that takes him to presidents and prime ministers in a race against the brain tumor that’s killing him. He’s literally the world’s most wanted man, and only the person he loves most can take him down.

Writer – Mark Millar
Artist – Matteo Scalera

Cover C – Ozgur Yildirim

The mission is on. With the quest to rid the world of the monsters that King had helped keep in place. Six months left to live and he’s doing all he can to right some wrongs.

This was pretty much all action here, with some interesting parallels to the real world. The action takes place in many different locations, and in a few different styles.

I like the way the flashbacks are explained – high stress and the drugs will do that – and they flip back to times of regret and old jobs. These help with the storytelling and slow down the fast-paced situations. This was a well-played out issue, with some good bookends to it all, with a link to a job from the previous part.

I love the art style, it links well to the style of the story, with some excellent fast action scenes and high tension and explosive action. The colours work out really well, with a darker, washed-out style, for the flashbacks. This makes the back and forth easier to read.

The story is progressing well, King has had it all his own way, but now there is the pushback from those in charge, and it is going to hit closer to home!
