Monsters and madness – I think that this rounds up this issue. The monsters come towards the end, but the madness is throughout.
It makes some excellent reading, the conversations between the mother and the marshal are well done, with a bit of backstory and some history thrown in too. We find out a little of Nettie’s life before marriage too.
This may be more of a ‘talking issue’ but nevertheless, it builds on the characters, the story and what is behind all of this – we even get a new member of the cast added in, and this leads us to some slightly cringy and funny moments.
The build to where we are is very well done, and the gold and the wanting/dismissal of it highlights the hold that it has on this town and the people within it. It is artfully explained here and leads us out into the snow.
The discovery in the snow isn’t what you think, but it does feature something that I had heard of before, and this is an interesting discovery and adds something more to the mystery of the town.
On top of this mystery, there is some new phenomenon – which is something very unexpected. I wonder where that leads.
I love the art styles in the comic, there are some changes, which match the tone, the dark corners and the gold, which mix well with the dirt and the snow.
This continues to be a fantastic series, well researched and with some powerful storytelling and art.
