A fallen warrior, Firefox, falls to earth and finds a unwilling John Kirby to merge with to help save his planet from the evil Omega Doma.

I featured Will Lill Comics title The Adventures of Lightning Marval, and now there is an initial arc of this new series, John Kirby: Firefox.
Within these first four issues, there is a lot of world-building. Some of them are alien and some are here on Earth. The Earthside of it is well done, giving a homely base of mind for our hero – despite his extraterrestrial origins. There are some interesting beginning parallels in the origin of Green Lantern, but it varies well enough away from that and gives us something different. This origin gives us the powers – and the intergalactic conflict behind it, but also grounds it to Earth and adds a human touch to it all.
As the issues progress, we move off-planet to space and there is a large number of planets to explore – one is the home planet of Firefox and we get a look at his origins and the fate of his world. It works well and fits in with the narrative of the story. This, along with the team-ups later in the story, gives us a large number of aliens and alien worlds to enjoy and spreads the story across the planets.
These aliens have their own motivations and powers and they build the story well, with some good showing off of their skills in battle.
As far as the villain is concerned, there is some interesting links to one of the heroic characters, and I wonder if that will come in later. Nevertheless, the motivations of the villain of the piece seem pretty simple, but I do wonder if there is a longer game going on there. Omega Doma is an interesting character though, with some good level powers and a thirst for more.
I enjoyed the art style here, with some good bits in the flashbacks. There are some excellent bright scenes and some big action pieces going on. Each character has its own stylings and I like the subtle differences between Firefox and John Kirby.
