Review: King Of Spies #3

We’re at the penultimate stage, and this is King Of Spies #3 from Image Comics.

Retired secret agent Sir Roland King has murdered the people he blames for all the wars, recessions, and mounting joblessness. Now, his killing spree around the world takes him to the one opponent he can never beat. His enemies are circling around him and every government in the world wants him dead, but he still has one more trick up his sleeve.

Writer – Mark Millar
Artist – Matteo Scalera

Things really ramp up in this issue as we lead into the finale. King is working his way through his list, and things are really beginning to get noticed. The comments in the halls of power work really well and lead into what King is doing. I like the use of the ‘Q’ style gadgets in the assassinations.

King has his own problems though as the fightback against him starts from here. King is resourceful though and this works to his advantage as he escapes. There is a problem though – his past is also catching up with him, as the cover-issued assassins go for him, with no problem of collateral damage. I like the fact that King doesn’t remember them – there have been so many enemies that he can’t possibly remember them all!

One enemy coming for him he does know. It’s his son – and this adds to it all. He has a major axe to grind and knows how his father works. It all is leading up to this.

This was a fast-paced read, with some big explosive scenes. The art really shows this well.
