Review – Transformers: War’s End #2

From IDW Publishing is the second issue of this spinoff series – this is Transformers: War’s End #2.

Trapped at the bottom of the Sonic Canyons, a group of Autobot scientists come face-to-face with Cybertron’s greatest threat, Exarchon, and his lost armory. Can the peaceful Autobots hold out until help arrives-and with the Crystal City under siege, can the Autobots spare any help to begin with?

This was a big issue!

First of all though, it was good to see some quality Starscream in this issue. Some classic snark and attitude. The smirk when he is proved correct had some nice timing and he and Soundwave make a hell of a team.

After that though, it gets quite heavy. We get the other side of the conversation that Optimus Prime has in last week’s main Transformers series, and some of the items click into place. There is also some good reference to what is going on there, and later on, something from a previous spinoff – no spoilers on that, but it may mean that all bets are off.

We get an interesting look at what Exarchon is after in this issue, and he is thinking big – but on the flip side, there may be a way to fight him and his powers. That makes the threat manageable here.

There are a lot of characters being used here – more than I expected for a spinoff, but they are managed well. The art, with it’s battles and scenes are well done and the numerous threats for peace on Cybertron are well shown.

Let’s see what happens next!
