Review: The Rush #5

CHAPTER 5: THE THAW

From Vault Comics is The Rush #5 – This hungry earth reddens under snowclad hills. Out now!

The beast is dead, an outlaw swings in hemp, and the thaw has come at last. And yet, Nettie Bridger feels as if she has sinned against nature itself, fearing some twisted taboo waiting in the cold earth to shatter every certainty and swallow her in darkness.

This penultimate issue gives us some of the answers. I like the build to these answers and there are some twists and turns before we get to that point.

The build to this is really well played out, with Nettie making some admissions of different types. I like the flashback to her and her husband, and the outcome of this, this gives her a reason to come on a little stronger.

The other admissions in this story are really well played out. They are logical – to the degree that this story can go by logic – and build us up to an excellent finale of the story.

The artwork continues to be excellent, with some really cleverly laid out scenes, Nettie being the mainstay of this story, and her expressions are well played out until the end.

This was an excellent read that kept me inthralled.
