Review: The RUSH #6

THE GRAND FINALE! - CHAPTER 6: THE WAKE

From Vault Comics comes the final issue of this amazing series. This is The RUSH #6.

1899: Answers will be unearthed. Is Nettie’s boy alive? What vile crime lies behind the darkness that festers in the bloody dirt of the cursed valley? And what foul beast, its hour come round at last, slouches towards Brokehoof to be born?

Writer: Si Spurrier
Artist: Nathan Gooden
Colorist: Addison Duke
Letterer: Jim Campbell
Designer: Tim Daniel
Cover A: Nathan Gooden, Cover B: Martin Simmonds

This issue closes off many bloody loops.

There are answers given and the history of the settlement. We get the proper story of the origins of the creatures that we find here, and the reasons behind it all.

It’s well told and really has some heart behind it. There is the sorrow of a lost child as well as the birth of something else. You can feel the human and otherworldly hearts beating in this issue and things click together well.

The story is well told in diary form for the most part, with some excellent commentary and points of view. These too have something motherly about them which is a good way at looking at the whole series and the troubles within.

The art is well show, with the design, colouring and lettering all adding to the emotional punches, the fire and the relief in this issue.

This has been an excellent story and has finished with a flourish.
