Draw: Iron Man or Iron Kid

My Iron Man or iron Kid. It’s been a while since I picked up the pens, so this was good for me. Drawn in my sketch book in inks and coloured in pro markers. Scanned and leveled in GIMP!

Halloween Spotlight: The Walking Dead #1

Its Halloween, and Walking Dead TV series starts in US today! In the UK next week I think! You can read issue #1 for free on your iPhone or iPad or you can read it online for nothing too!

Rick Grimes, Sheriff of a small town in Kentucky awakes in a hospital. Comatose after being shot while on duty, Rick finds the world abandoned of all things living and is faced with walking undead, who attack him on sight. He returns home to find his family, son Carl and wife Lori, gone. He meets his new neighbor, who points him towards Atlanta. After retrieving supplies from the abandoned Police Station, Rick sets off to Atlanta to search for his family.

Walking Dead: Day and Date Zombies…

Following from last month, it seems that Image Comic’s Zombie series is continuing on a day and date digital/print release!

From Comixology:

Autumn winds carry the chills of the season this week as the dead rise once more on comiXology, this time with the day and date release of The Walking Dead #78 just in time to the herald the series premiere of The Walking Dead television show on AMC this Halloween.

Spotlight: Battle Pope

Battle Pope is available on the Image app. Currently only issues #1-#5 are available of the 14 issue series.
Written by Robert Kirkman and art by Tony Moore, Battle Pope is a God-Powered pope who fights evil, helped by Jesus!
At this point Battle Pope has been defeated by Lucifer and is in hell!

Its well worth reading on the app – especially if you like this type of humour, because the way the transitions meld into each other really add to the comic timing!

Walking Dead: Digital/Print = Day/Date?

Techland have pointed out that long running series and soon to be on TV series was released the same day in print as it was in digital…

Here’s something potentially interesting: iFanboy has noticed that the most recent issue of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead was released on the same day, at the same price point, in both digital and print versions. Not surprisingly, that leads to the question, is this a new ongoing thing, or a mistake?

Given the lack of fanfare about this move, I have to side with the latter, but also wonder if it’s a quiet trial balloon to see how audiences react. Day-and-date digital releases are something that comic publishers have only flirted with so far, with DC’s Justice League: Generation Lost sharing a price point with the print version and Marvel’s digital Invincible Iron Man Annual being more expensive than print, so there’s nothing too revolutionary about Kirkman choosing this route – but, with the television series based on the comic launching next month, this would be a good time to do whatever it takes to make the comic available on as many platforms and to as many people as possible. Even if this was a mistake, perhaps we should expect an announcement soon…

Image Comics: The App!

The Image Comics app has been available for about a week now, with titles such as Fell, BattlePope and Invincible available. Here is the official blurb from Image:

ON TOP OF THE WORLD

Top Cow and Shadowline join forces with Image Comics to offer the best in digital comics

The Image Comics app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch offers comics fans unprecedented access to the best comics on the market, and Top Cow and Shadowline have joined forces with Image Comics to make sure the Image digital catalog is unsurpassed.

Included in the Image Comics digital catalog, you’ll find the biggest titles from Top Cow and Shadowline. Whether you’re looking for WITCHBLADE, THE DARKNESS, MAGDALENA, ARTIFACTS, BOMB QUEEN, MORNING GLORIES, or Shadowline’s titles for children, you’ll be able to get most Top Cow and Shadowline titles from comiXology. A few first issues are free, and regular issues are typically priced for $1.99.

“comiXology has quickly proven to be the leader in the digital comic space,” says Top Cow President Matt Hawkins. “It makes sense for Top Cow to be part of the Image app, so when Eric Stephenson suggested it, we agreed and folded our own efforts under the overall banner.”

Shadowline Publisher Jim Valentino adds, “comiXology is leading the way in finding a new audience for comics with digital presentation, and I’m proud to have Shadowline’s catalog hosted by them.”

The Image Comics app is now available for free download from the iTunes App Store and features titles from Top Cow, Shadowline, Todd McFarlane Productions, Skybound, and Image Comics. In addition to individual issues for ongoing series, which are priced for $1.99, the app also provides issues of several popular Image titles, sneak peeks of upcoming titles, and other exclusive content for free.

Its great to see another publisher getting on board – the more content the better!
