As we come towards the end of the year, I am going to be reflecting on the state of mobile comics and the changes we have had over the last twelve months. I will be looking at distributors, contributors and publishers.
I got the feeling that Graphic.Ly started the year slowly, but managed to come in in leaps and bounds to the top of the comics market.
Graphic.Ly is about community, you could discuss what you are reading, what you are buying and what your ratings are. The acquisition of website iFanboy added to this and it came including its own community feel. Although the iPhone app does fall down and is still being developed, Graphic.Ly have added a web app (in beta) and a windows app too, allowing you to download and read comics in their own format.
Due to their nature Graphic.Ly have always had good lines of communication open with their users and seem to be responding well to any suggestions for them to implement.
The selection from Graphic.Ly is also huge, with new comics being released on a daily basis – this is also different to the ‘Wednesday Comics’ approach from other companies.
Graphic.Ly are in a key position to be an industry player for 2011 and I’m sure more will come…
