Reviews of this weeks Marvel (Star Wars) digital comics comics.
Known as the skilled co-pilot of the infamous Millennium Falcon, the legendary Wookiee warrior Chewbacca will star in his very own limited comic series! After the battle of Yavin, Chewbacca is on his own when he crash lands his ship on an Imperial occupied planet. Now stranded, Chewie finds himself caught in the middle of trying to return to the rebellion and helping a young and feisty girl in need. Writer Gerry Duggan (Deadpool, 1872, Hulk) and artist Phil Noto (Black Widow, X-23, Uncanny X-Force) bring us a never-before-seen tale of the heroic Wookiee we all know and love.
Another short mini-series and I did wonder how they were going to deal with Chewbacca’s ‘unique’ speech, and they dealt with it in the best way – no translations, no protocol droids – we don’t fully understand him and nor does his current partner! It’s an interesting read, and the parts which refer to Chewbacca’s history are very well done. The cover is really good too – as is all the art!
Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Shattered Empire #3
Concluding the first new-canon comic tale set between episodes VI and VII! As the Empire shatters around them, Rebel heroes fight for a better tomorrow! Greg Rucka (Punisher, Cyclops, Wolverine) and Marco Checchetto (Punisher, Avengers World) take us into the more recent long, long time ago!
The Empire’s fightback begins as the ghost of the dead Emperor seeks to hide and destroy the remains of the secrets he has hidden. There’s more than one ghost here as Leia explores Naboo and gets a sense of history with Darth Maul – it’s a nice touch as a link to the past. There are more links to Episode I with the retaliation by the rebels. I think this is one of the stronger issues
