Review: Dragonsblood #1

Some thoughts on the first issue of a new mini-series from Zenescope Entertainment – Dragonsblood #1 – out this week in print and digitally!

Legend of Sigurd:

Many generations ago, the Völsung clan was tasked with slaying the dragon, Fafnir. Sigurd, the last of his clan, must now take up the fight against his family’s ancient and terrible foe.

Writer: Nick Bermel
Artwork: Jason Muhr

We’ve had this series teased, and now we get a good look at Sigurd.
This issue was a nice primer. Plenty of action and some nice internal monologging from Sigurd.
Hopefully the later issues will build on this, and I assume the ending of this is how the series gets its name.
Although we get some good backstory of Sigurd here, there is nothing more, he needs to be built up some more, and this series is perfectly placed to do it!

The art is excellent, with some nice aspects within the dungeons and I like the way the dragon (and subsequent battle) is shown.

Hopefully this series will show us why Sigurd is special and how he was able to succeed where his ancestors didn’t!
