Review: Mission Arizona #1

Padre Martin Risk tumbled into an abyss of sorrow and grief after the loss of his bride and new born son.

A devil named Boone heard Padre Risk’s cries for help and an offer was made: the return of his child…in exchange for a soul.

Ten years later, the devil has returned to Mission, Arizona, with his wives, Past, Present and Future. He wishes to collect what’s owed. A soul. The soul of Martin Risk’s boy, Samuel.

Samuel Risk never asked for a second chance at life, but he’ll be damned if he lets the devil take it away.

As an introduction to the series this is a nice read, with an excellent concept and distinctive style. I enjoyed this story, with the setting and the fast paced story telling.
The return of the devil to Mission is excellently paced, with Boone acting as a charismatic entertainer to the townsfolk with only the Padre understanding his true nature, and those of his ‘wives’.
The washed out style of colour and art work well in this setting – with a combination of the bigger set piece panels and the close up reaction shots.
As an issue #1 this is an excellent read, introducing the key characters and motivations well and this first issue is free!
