Reviews: Daredevil, Nova, Doctor Strange & Star Wars

Daredevil #1

Back in black and on his home turf, Daredevil begins again in New York City as a new enemy emerges. Meanwhile his alter ego, Matt Murdock, is on a new side of the law in the District Attorney’s office. Fighting crime in the shadows, prosecuting bad guys in the light, it’s a whole new chapter for our man without fear- including the arrival of the devil’s advocate. Welcome to Hell, Blindspot.

Daredevil returns to New York, and it seems to be that he has done something to make the world forget that he is Matt Murdock – all except Foggy, who doesn’t seem happy with the situation! Foggy also seems unsure of Daredevil’s new sidekick – Blindspot – who seems to have some secrets of his own. There’s a new group causing trouble too – the Five Fingers, who are also causing problems. Matt has a new role too – instead of defending the innocent, he’s prosecuting the guilty – that may turn out to be interesting too! This is a darker Daredevil!

Nova #2

Monsters! Pancakes! Mini-Golf! Sam Alexander is still getting used to having his dad back on Earth, but things are about to get a whole lot less stable when a surprising earthquake strikes. What’s responsible for the catastrophic quake? If you guessed “a giant, awful monster than only Nova can stop,” you’re right! Plus, more about Jesse is revealed.

The ‘father’ & son team up continue as the two Nova’s fight against a beast in the mines surrounding the city. Sam moves fast, but it seems like his personal life is getting more effected than he would like being a Nova. Meanwhile Jesse seems to still be having trouble as Sam makes a weird discovery about him – more on this to follow I expect. It’s starting slow here, but we’re getting there!

Star Wars #13

Bringing together the smash-hit Star Wars and Darth Vader series! Leia comes face to face with true evil!

There’s less Vader here, but more Aphra, Han, Chewie, Luke and Droids as they face off while the hunt for Vader goes on. There’s some nice bits here, with Chewie and Han taking on Aphra and there is some good humour going on too! The droids make this issue and I really enjoyed it – this is one of the most ‘fun’ parts of the Vader Down crossover. The cover gives away what happens with Leia – but there’s more to come!

Doctor Strange #3

Dr. Strange wakes up, nearly naked with none of his magical tools or spell books and no memory of how he got there. Nor does he know where all the monsters chasing him came from.

We get into the larger picture here as Doctor Strange finds out one of the reasons why he’s having so many magical problems. There are a few double page spreads here, so there will be some screen rotating, but they’re worth it with so much going on with the art! There’s a lot of Strange running around naked too – I wonder of the movie would have that?
