Some thoughts on this weeks 2000 AD – Prog 2089 – featuring Judge Dredd, Skip Tracer, The Fall Of Deadworld, The Order & Durham Red
JUDGE DREDD: ELEVETATOR PITCH by Rob Williams (w) Chris Weston (a) Annie Parkhouse (l) Chris Blythe (c)
Concluding this story, Dredd gets his licks in and there are some nice comedic moments as the elevator fall to earth. I especially like the crowds reaction. The wally squad member was interesting and a timely reminder of this teams role too.
SKIP TRACER: HEAVY IS THE HEAD by James Peaty (w) Paul Marshall (a) Dylan Teague (c) Simon Bowland (l)
Completing this initial arc of Skip Tracer, I was glad to see that he will be returning. An interesting character and location! The way this all wraps up is well done and Skip gets some interesting words. I wonder if that will have ramifications in future stories. I like the finish, as it gives a good finish and makes things tense for future arcs!
THE ORDER: THE NEW WORLD by Kek-W (w) John Burns (a) Annie Parkhouse (l)
A bit of a look back in time in this issue, with Anna looking for a way into the Wyrm. It’s an interesting bit of backstory and gives us a look into her mindset. I like the art and colours in this issue, the gloomy cellar is perfect for this story!
THE FALL OF DEADWORLD by Kek-W (w) Dave Kendall (a) Ellie De Ville (l)
The assault on the Judges is in full force here, and I like the different factions reactions to it all. It is all getting really dark and Judge Fear is probably the weirdest! The art is well done, with some excellent scenes!
DURHAM RED: BORN BAD by Alec Worley (w) Lee Carter (a) Ellie De Ville (l)
A nice twist at the end of the arc. Red finally gets to feed and there are some excellently laid out scenes. Red is an interesting character and this arc has built her back up again. There is a nice link to the Strontium Dog run too!
