Review: 78 MPH #2

78 MPH #2 is the second issue of this three-issue mini-series from Red 5 Comics. Out now!

In a not so distant future, the sun is a destructive force that scorches all living creatures. The only way to survive is to move at 78 miles per hour, perpetually avoiding sunrise. But… did all of humanity agree on this?

There’s a lot to take in here in this issue. And it is well worth a second read to really get to grips with everything that happens.

There is some power base building here, using religion as the keystone to it all. The disciples are doing Chuen’s bidding for his plan, and the true reasons behind his power are starting to be revealed. I like the speed in which this goes forward and it moves the rest of the story on well.

We also get the background behind Chesterfield and the nature of his birth – it is well done, combining two different narratives with action that is going on in the convoy. I like how this was done and the way that it links between the two aspects of the story.

The art continues to be excellent, with the red/orange tones working well, with the bright light proving a great contrast in the story. The final panel is especially well done.

This was an excellent middle issue that leads us to the end of the story in the third act really well.
