Reviews: Grimm Fairy Tales & Oz: Heart Of Magic

Some thoughts on two of this weeks comics releases from Zenescope Entertainment – Grimm Fairy Tales #29 and Oz: Heart Of Magic #3

Grimm Fairy Tales Vol. 2 #29

Skye’s journey takes a new turn as she follows a lead to the land of Oz, but not all as it seems in the Emerald City. What she finds on her trip down the yellow brick road could have larger ramifications for the entire Grimm Universe.

Following on from the attack in the last issue, we get a nice fight scene with Skye trying out some new moves. I like the fight scene and it was well told. It also leads nicely onto Skye’s trip to Oz. Linking up nicely with the Oz mini series, Skye seems to get the information that she needs. There is a nice twist though, and it looks to cause a lot some problems for Skye moving forward. It’s a classic trick and I like the way it was all set up and linked up!
More Oz next issue!

Oz: Heart Of Magic #3

What is the secret of this giant sentinel, and will our intrepid crew discover the answer before one or more of them pay the ultimate price? When they finally find what they’ve been searching for, will it be too late? Meanwhile Bartleby the Scarecrow discovers that not all is as it seems in the Emerald City, but not before the mad Wizard and his scheming partner finally reach their ultimate goal.

Writer: Terry Kavanagh
Artwork: Marcelo Mueller

Talking of Oz….

This is an all-action issue, with a battle against an immense sentry. The source and reason for his power is revealed, plus some more information about the wizard! There is a good return as well as some sacrifices. it’s well told and a good middle issue of the mini series. The villains seem triumphant and have what they want, but you can see some fraying around the edges. Dorothy is try to do her best, but those around are fighting too!
A good issue with a lot going on and a good cliffhanger at the end in a good spread page!
