Reviews – Belle: Beast Hunter & Grimm Fairy Tales Holiday Special 2018

Some thoughts on this weeks comics from Zenescope – the final issue of Belle: Beast Hunter and the Grimm Fairy Tales 2018 Holiday Special!

Grimm Fairy Tales: Holiday Special 2018

Tis the season to be terrified, as Grimm Fairy Tales returns with another year of holiday horror for the whole family. This issue includes three new bone chilling stories set during the happiest time of the year.

Eric Johnson (EricJ) – Cover Artist
Daniel Leister – Variant Cover Artist
Derlis Santacruz – Variant Cover Artist
Alfredo Reyes – Variant Cover Artist

A selection of dark stories for Christmas. There’s something about a bit of horror at this time of year. The first story gives us a different look at the ‘Elf on A Shelf’ (Something I’ve never got in to!) It’s a nice build up, although you could see the ending coming in a satisfying way!
The second story is a well told haunting – told over two very different Christmases. I like the way this one built up, with some nice planning and effects. The end is happy! (ish?!)
The final story has a little murder, and some haunting. I like the pace of this one, it’s pretty fast and furious too! The ending was a good one.
That brings us to the ending of the link up story and that was well done too!!

Belle: Beast Hunter #6

Belle’s life has been brought to the brink of destruction, and now she stands face to face with the person that has been behind it all, can she survive one last battle to save not only herself but the rest of the world!? Don’t miss this final issue!

Dave Franchini – Writer
Bong Dazo – Artist
Sean Chen – Cover Artist

This final chapter of the mini-series gives us a beginning!
Belle finally meets her mother, and finds out what she’s been up to. We don’t get all the answers from her, but we do get some. There are hints and other questions to be asked, but they are for another day. This story completes this arc well, with Belle getting her brother back (kind of!) and her support team. It’s all been a very nice set up for either an entry into the GFT universe proper or, hopefully another mini series. There are many possibilities with the character and the way the story can go. This issue has some good scenes with some nice art – not only in the battle, but I also liked the flashbacks too!
