Review: Porcelain #1

From Ablaze Publishing this new comic is part of their new releases by Maria Llovet. The first one is Porcelain #1 and is out now. Check out my preview here.

Stuck inside an ever-changing mystery house that hunts children and turns them into dolls, Beryl goes on a psychedelic journey where she must face the notion of her own limitations and move past them…before she becomes the building’s newest prey.

Going into this I wasn’t sure what to expect.

What we do get is an amazing beginning to what I expect is a twisting, turning thriller.
Starting off, we get an interesting introduction to Beryl – who seems happy where she is, but her mother has big ideas for her and wants her to have a better life.

Sent out on an errand, in a ‘Red Riding Hood’ style walk, Beryl stays from the set path and ends up in an interesting house. This is where the adventure begins.

The art style really adds to the scenes in this comic, and build you up and adds to the psychedelic feel to it all.

From the lonely house, as Beryl looks across the desert, to the red path leading her to and from her home – and where she breaks away.

The house is even more interesting, after the open spaces of the walk on the errand and to the house, you suddenly feel cramped up and in danger. And that danger is there, as Beryl is made an offer (or perhaps a threat) and there is a very interesting saviour.

This is an intriguing and amazing read, it looks like there is a lot to come and I look forwards to seeing more. The art is unique and has some brilliant colour theory behind it.

If you are looking for something new, then check this out.
