Review: Transformers #39

From IDW Publishing this week is the latest on Cybertron in Transformers #39

The rescue continues! Chromia has led a team deep into Decepticon controlled Iacon to rescue a captive Autobot, but how will they get out and back to Crystal City? Meanwhile, Cyclonus’s reunion with Provoke takes a new turn as a long-held secret is revealed!

Combining the continued issues between the Autobots and Decepticons as well as the threat of Exarchon. This is done really well.

First, the rescue of Ultra Magnus and that falls down to a big flat-out battle. With Sixshot leading the charge and a lot of smoke and explosions. I enjoy the way this built up and it was a well-planned battle. The discovery of the weapons helped the Autobots well and I like the way it was finished off. Swindle continues to be an entertaining character.

Then there is Exarchon, who is infiltrating his way into the war. I like the way Cyclonus had a measure of closure here, and his suspicions were well-founded. The ghosts that haunt him are well written and amusing. They remind me of the ghosts in Stardust!

This was a good issue and finishes with a bang. I like the way it has been quietly leading up to this point and now we have something to look forward to.
