Review: Hawk The Slayer #1

Out now from Rebellion is a new mini-series, this is Hawk The Slayer #1.

A few years have passed since Hawk and his trusty band of warriors defeated the evil wizard Voltan, but Hawk is still uneasy, fearing that the Dark wizards have only temporarily disappeared and are due to return. Once again, Hawk must assemble a team of warriors to confront the returning evil. The Mind Sword may be the key to saving the world, but is it also responsible for the resurgence of these ungodly forces?

Kicking us with a good rundown for new readers, or those who want a refresher on the characters. It’s well-told, hitting all the right points and getting us up to speed.

From there, we start to get the inkling of the threat that is underway. There are still the dark wizards, and they are attacking. This is done in spectacular style. With no eyes and some gory violence, this is well played out – adding to the panache of the movie.

We get to learn some more of what is going on, and that links up nicely with the end of the story. With Hawk and his colleagues in a bind, the rescue comes from an interesting part of the past adventure.

I loved reading this and as a fist issue, it had everything going for it – an excellent read, with a compelling story and some brilliant art.
