Review – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin #5

From IDW Publishing this saga comes to an end in this excellent final issue. This is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin #5.

The jaw-dropping finale to the biggest TMNT story ever is here! One final showdown between mutant and Foot Clan will determine the fate of NYC. Will the Ronin be able to find some measure of peace or is he fated to meet the same end as his brothers? Don’t miss one of the most epic battles in TMNT history and the conclusion to the comic book event of the year!

(W) Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, Tom Waltz (A) Ben Bishop (A/CA) Kevin Eastman, Esau Escorza, Issac Escorza

I had a seeking suspicion that this was going to be a bittersweet issue.

And it was. I liked the way this was all building up to this confrontation. There were choices to be made, and I think that they were all the right ones.

Artistically, there were some tough pages, but the team really knocked this one out. From fighting with high-tech armour, in the sewers, under water and in the streets. This had some excellent layouts and scenes.

The story makes sense and allows us to perhaps revisit this world in the future – although I like not knowing what comes next.

The flashback scene had me kind of worried for a while, but then it clicks in and makes sense, this was a nice finish to the story.

In all this has been an epic story, with some highs and lows, the art has been consistently excellent, and this collection is on my buy list.
