Review: West Of Sundown #2

The second issue of this horror western from Vault Comics is out now. This is West Of Sundown #2.

New York socialite and vampire Constance has arrived in the frontier town of Sangre de Moro. Now, she’ll have to survive monster slayers, gunmen, and the harsh New Mexico sun to get what she needs–soil from the place where she was rebirthed immortal.

Writers: Tim Seeley & Aaron Campbell
Artist: Jim Terry
Colorist: Triona Farrell
Letterer: Crank!
Designer: Tim Daniel
Cover A: Aaron Campbell, Cover B: Jim Terry, Cover C: Tim Seeley & Cover D: Skylar Patridge

This issue gives us the origin of Constance and how she came to be. It also gives us the reason why she has had to journey back here to regain her strength.

It’s well done, and cleverly adds to the bookend at the end of the issue where we make a discovery that most readers suspect is linked to her origin.

The issue is well done for the most part. Building on the tension of the Civil War, and the new ways of this part of the world. We get a look at not only those hunting Constance, but also something more. It is well done and surprising in some ways, but adds to the tension of the issue and the story as Constance is weaker than she should be.

The everyman of her companion is done well. He is a good character and one who is one of us. He is the most threatened of all, as he has no powers and may take a beating.

This story continues to intrigue and I look forward to seeing more of these characters.
