Review: Hawk The Slayer #3

From Rebellion, we are at the midway point of this classic mini-series, this is Hawk The Slayer #3.

  • UK and DIGITAL: 8 June £3.99
  • NORTH AMERICA: 6 July $6.50
  • DIAMOND: APR221762

The all-new comic-book sequel to the cult sword n’ sorcery movie continues as Hawk and his companions battle the nightmarish horrors of the Forest of Weir, and converses with the spirit of Hawk’s father in order to find out the secret of the Mindstone, while the resurrected Voltan brings yet more carnage to the land in his search for Hawk.

CREATIVE TEAM: Garth Ennis (w) Henry Flint (a) Rob Steen (l)
COVER: Greg Staples

The fallout of the black forest continues here, with visions and attacks. They are quite gory and violent, but our heroes make it out of the forest intact.

Meanwhile, Voltan is making himself known, and he does this in his usual way – with death and destruction. It’s well played out, and it shows that he has his own means and ways to find the Mindstone.

On the subject of the Mindstone, we discover a lot more about its past, and its link to Hawk. It seems a good idea to delve into this mystery and add more to what we already know.

The artwork continues to be excellent, combining the light and dark aspects well. The battle scenes are well laid out and suitably chaotic, with a lot happening. I like the contrasts in the tone of the pages depending on who is being portrayed. The ghostly images were well done.

This issue brings things on well, with a suitable cliffhanger for the next issue.
