Review: Transformers #30

From IDW Publishing this week it’s Transformers #30.

“War World: We Are Not Meant To Be Darkness ”. Optimus Prime does not wish to fight, but knows he must. By his side, leading his army, is one of Cybertron’s former great generals and former inmate of the White Tower, Pyra Magna. The two may not see eye to eye, but for the Autobots to survive and stand up to the Decepticons they must work together. But first, they must get out of Iacon alive!

This was a really good issue. Combining the political, action, history and a look towards the future.

Optimus tries, he wants to give the opportunity for a peaceful option. It’s well built up and I like the way the structure of this story is told. There are flashbacks and we get a good understanding of what has happened. I liked the Orion Pax/Optimus Prime comment from Megatron, that will take some getting used to.

Prime is no fool though and he makes some preparations and that is a bittersweet finish to the story – it is well done, and I like the way the final panels are set.

Megatron continues to be excellently written too – I like his comments on winning and losing. He has some heavy hitters behind him, so it will be interesting to see where he goes next.

The art is well done, with some good action parts. I like the art with Cyclonus here, and the twist is well done.

This was a great end-of-an-arc issue and I look forward to what comes next.
