Review – Belle: Kill Zone

A new one-shot story from Zenescope Entertainment this week. This is Belle: Kill Zone.

Ares is the god of war, a leader of armies and the bringer of death wherever  he goes. Anabelle “Belle” DiMarco is a human, a hunter of beasts and a  defender of those who cannot defend themselves. War is coming and you  won’t want to miss this blood-soaked issue where the battle is brought to  Belle’s doorstep. Will she be able to defend all she holds dear or will she fall like the countless others?

Belle seems to be on a bit of a holding pattern as of late. There have been hints towards what may be to come, and they seem to be racking up the enemies for her to face. Some have already been revealed and have battled Belle, while some others are in the shadows.

This was an interesting one, as there is the present danger, with the Cyclops and Ares, but there was also something more.

It happens towards the final third of the issue and may have some interesting ramifications in the future – where this aspect is going to lead, I have no idea, but it will be interesting to see it come out.

Meanwhile, back to the current adventure, and Belle has found herself and Mel captured, and the crimelord cyclops is to blame. The reason for their capture is actually a case of mistaken identity, and this error leads them to the court of Ares.

Ares bloodlust is on show here, and he takes a small shine to Belle. Belle, for her part, what nothing to do with him, or his plans, and plots a good escape.

What follows is a well-told fight scene, with the above aspect making an appearance. On top of that, we get a very interesting stinger in the tale.

The story was good, but I did find the style of art changes a little jarring at first – it took nothing away from the story, but I do wonder why it happened at all. I can understand it with the dream sequence, but not in the other parts.
