Review: Grimm Fairy Tales #60

Grimm Fairy Tales #60 continues the adventures across dimensions from Zenescope Entertainment.

Taking over after the death of her mother, Sela, Skye Mathers is the new Guardian of the Nexus. With the help of Shang, her mentor, and her friends at Arcane Acre, she is learning the extent of her new powers and trying to figure out her place in protecting the universe. A new threat has risen, The Dark Princess, a tyrant that has broken free from a crumbling universe not much different than ours. Along with her generals, The Swarm, she began her assault on the Nexus by expelling Skye, Shang, and their allies, scattering them across the realms. Now they are desperately trying to find their way back to Arcane Acre to stand up to the Dark Princess before it’s too late.

This issue has a fair amount of action.

First up in the alternative Oz, there are some interesting developments in the fight against the vampire invasion force. This is long-winded and pretty brutal, with some interesting decisions being made. This alternate Sela is interesting and not the one that we know…

Nevertheless, this issue moves us forwards with some interesting speed, and a big decision is made at the end.

Meanwhile, in our home dimension, Shang and his concubines (heh) are in some serious trouble. Shang does have a plan though and things work out in an interesting way. I like the way that this plays out and in general, the split between the two stories.

The art is well done, but I would say that in the bigger fight scenes things get a little confusing in parts.

This issue moves us ever closer to the confrontation with the Dark Princess…
